TransHyDE Final Conference 2025: Reflecting Progress, Shaping the Future

From March 25 to 27, 2025, the TransHyDE Final Conference took place at the Futurium in Berlin. For three days, stakeholders from science, industry, and politics discussed the results of the first project phase—and outlined next steps toward a future-proof hydrogen infrastructure.

cruh21 was actively involved, with Kai Ruske, Jimmie Langham, Cäcilia Gätsch, and Barbara Mai attending to engage in professional exchange, present insights, and network with project partners and decision-makers.

Project Results and High-Level Panels

The conference featured in-depth presentations of seven key TransHyDE projects:

  • System Analysis
  • GET H2
  • Safe Infrastructure
  • AmmoRef
  • Helgoland
  • AppLHy!
  • LNG2Hydrogen
  • Plus the accompanying projects Norm and Mukran

Throughout the sessions, one message was clear: Hydrogen transport—via pipeline, ship, or road—is technically feasible, but continues to demand strong regulatory and economic frameworks.

Three high-level panel discussions tackled critical strategic questions:

  • The Hydrogen Economy in 2030 and 2045
  • The Role of Hydrogen Networks
  • Maritime Imports and Global Supply Chains

The final panel, “Quo Vadis Energy Research?”, brought together Dr. Axel Bree (BMWK), Dr. Stefan Kaufmann (Member of Parliament), and Dr. Silke Wagener (National Hydrogen Council). The session was moderated by Jimmie Langham, TransHyDE coordinator at cruh21.

More than a conclusion, the event served as a launchpad. With TransHyDE 2.0, the next phase is already underway—aiming to close knowledge gaps, transfer research into application, and prepare the hydrogen market with the support of strong partners across all sectors.

cruh21 remains actively involved—in coordination, scientific analysis, and in dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.
