Poor site decisions can have severe consequences: projects may be delayed for years or, in the worst case, become unfeasible. Key factors that determine success include:
Infrastructure: ports, grid connections, and transport routes
Permitting: regulatory frameworks and planning procedures
Land availability: technical suitability and development potential
Regional value creation and acceptance: involvement of local stakeholders and societal support
Only when these dimensions are systematically considered can viable business cases be developed and the pace of the energy transition ensured.
Expert Contribution at Husum Wind
The importance of site identification was the focus of a presentation by Jimmie Langham at the H₂ Forum during HUSUM WIND. The talk sparked great interest and was followed by an in-depth discussion with numerous questions from the audience.
Special thanks go to Martina Köhn and WindAdvice GmbH for organizing and moderating the session.
Site analysis is far more than a planning step. It is a decisive factor for feasibility, economic viability, and social acceptance of hydrogen projects – and therefore for the overall success of the energy transition.
