Press Release
TransHyDE 2.0 Launches – New Initiative for Hydrogen Infrastructure

Essen, April 23, 2024 – With the goal of advancing the European hydrogen infrastructure, the TransHyDE 2.0 initiative will officially launch on May 6, 2025, in Berlin.
Dr. Stefan Kaufmann, former Hydrogen Commissioner at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, will assume the role of designated founding chairman.

The Engine Room of a Future Hydrogen Infrastructure

Building upon the achievements of Germany’s national hydrogen flagship project TransHyDE, TransHyDE 2.0 expands the holistic approach by integrating industry-driven content.

The initiative positions itself as:

  • A nucleus for new hydrogen infrastructure and derivative projects

  • A consulting platform for politics, business, and society

  • A facilitator between industry and research

  • A network across the hydrogen value chain

The focus is on seven implementation platforms:

  • Gaseous hydrogen

  • Liquid hydrogen

  • Ammonia

  • Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC)

  • Dimethyl ether (DME)

  • Carbon dioxide

  • Methanol

As well as four accompanying research platforms:
System Analysis, Standardization & Safety, Market & Regulation, and Public Acceptance.

"The further development from the TransHyDE flagship project to the open initiative TransHyDE 2.0 is a matter close to my heart. The past four years have demonstrated what is possible through trustful collaboration between industry, associations, and research: a major contribution to Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure! With the new initiative, we can now solidify these successes and move towards industrial scaling."
Jimmie Langham
