New Commission: EEG 2023 Tenders - Hybrid and Sprinter Power Plants (§39o, §39p)

In early 2024, HDF Energy is set to conduct the first tendering processes. The EEG 2023 outlines plans for tendering 4.4 GW each for hydrogen hybrid and sprinter power plants until 2028. Hybrid power plants are combinations of renewable energy facilities with a hydrogen storage system and a back-conversion plant. Sprinter power plants, on the other hand, source their hydrogen for back-conversion from the hydrogen network or storage. Since June 2023, cruh21 has been accompanying HDF Energy on this journey.

The EEG and Hybrid and Sprinter Power Plants (§39o, §39p)

At the beginning of the year, the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) in Germany introduced significant changes regarding tenders for hybrid and sprinter power plants as outlined in sections 39o and 39p. These innovations mark a crucial step toward a more sustainable energy supply. Hybrid power plants combine various renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, with energy storage technologies to ensure continuous and reliable electricity generation. Sprinter power plants, on the other hand, are designed to quickly respond to peak demand in the power grid. The tenders in EEG 2023 aim to promote the development and expansion of such facilities to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of the German energy market, furthering the transition to renewable energy sources. This represents a significant move toward achieving Germany's energy policy goals and reducing CO2 emissions.

cruh21 as a Strong Partner for Tenders

For cruh21, a strategic project consultancy, this falls within our area of expertise. We support HDF Energy in preparing for upcoming tenders, building a project pipeline, and developing a bidding strategy.

  • This includes consultation and workshops on EEG 2023 with a focus on hydrogen sprinter and hybrid power plants, as well as updates on political and regulatory developments.
  • We devise the cooperation and partnership strategy for sprinter and hybrid power plants, showcasing and facilitating potential project financing and cooperation opportunities for market entry in Germany.
  • Additionally, we assist in identifying suitable locations for hydrogen power plants.

cruh21 will accompany HDF Energy until December, and we look forward to a fruitful collaboration over the coming months.
