Jimmie Langham as presenter at beyondgas 2024

On Wednesday, 18 September 2024, Jimmie Langham, Managing Director and hydrogen expert at cruh21 GmbH, took part in the renowned beyondgas trade fair. As moderator of the breakout session ‘Production and Import’, Langham led a high-calibre discussion dedicated to the key challenges and opportunities of the hydrogen market.

Panellists included leading industry representatives:

  • Wiebke Permin from TOPSOE A/S
  • Dr Geert Tjarks from EWE Hydrogen GmbH
  • Wim Tichelaar from N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie
  • Dr Jasmin Schiefer from Wien Energie GmbH
  • Kathrin Schulz from Hynamics Deutschland GmbH

The discussion centred on the topics of hydrogen production and imports. In particular, the accelerated hydrogen ramp-up played a central role. The panellists emphasised that an intensive expansion of production capacities and a robust import strategy are essential in order to meet the increasing demand for green hydrogen and achieve the desired climate neutrality.

In addition to the breakout session, another highlight of the trade fair was the keynote session on ‘Hydrogen in energy policy’. Here, prominent representatives from politics and business provided valuable insights into the strategic direction of the hydrogen industry. The keynote speakers included:

  • Dr Axel Bree, Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK)
  • Olaf Lies, Minister of Economic Affairs of the State of Lower Saxony
  • Dr Sopna Sury, RWE Generation SE
  • Werner Diwald, German Hydrogen Association e.V.
  • Dr Christoph von dem Bussche, Gascade Gastransport GmbH
  • Dr Alexander Redenius, Salzgitter AG

The session was moderated by Christian Thole from Becker Büttner Held. The contributions emphasised in particular the role of hydrogen as a key technology for the decarbonisation of the energy sector. Specific political measures and cross-industry cooperation were discussed in order to establish the necessary infrastructure for the hydrogen market.

cruh21 GmbH would like to thank all participants and is already looking forward to continuing these valuable discussions next year. The beyondgas trade fair has once again shown that hydrogen will play a central role in the future energy supply.
