Follow-up report on the energy network conference in Hamburg and the ‘Hydrogen supply chains’ event in Berlin

Report on the "Hydrogen Supply Chains" Event in Berlin
Last week the "Hydrogen Supply Chains" event took place in Berlin, focusing intensively on the current and future challenges of hydrogen infrastructure. This event brought together experts from various fields to discuss the necessary steps to realize a sustainable hydrogen economy by 2045.
A standout highlight was the session "Current Needs for a Hydrogen Infrastructure in 2045," held at 4:30 PM. Jimmie Langham, coordinator of the TransHyDE flagship project, presented the development of the project from version 1.0 to 2.0. In his presentation, he highlighted the progress made so far and the future challenges to establish safe and efficient hydrogen transport solutions.
The event covered a wide range of topics, including the import of hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives by ship and pipeline, requirements for a safe infrastructure, the construction of the hydrogen core network, and the logistics and supply of liquid hydrogen. These topics are crucial for realizing the vision of a sustainable hydrogen economy by 2045.
Another highlight was the panel discussion at 5:00 PM, featuring experts such as Wieland Kley from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Dr. Gunther Grathwohl from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Tim Bruns from Open Grid Europe GmbH, Christian Hein from Aurubis AG, and Dr. Torben Stührmann from the hyBit project. They discussed the necessary measures to secure the hydrogen infrastructure of the future.
Report on the Energy Network Conference in Hamburg
From October 17 to 19, 2024, the Energy Network Conference of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation alumni took place in Hamburg. The central theme of the conference was "Hydrogen as a Key Element on the Path to Climate Neutrality."
Jimmie Langham participated in Panel II on Friday, discussing the "Measures and Requirements for Building Infrastructure" for the international hydrogen ramp-up. In his presentation, he emphasized the role of infrastructure projects in the hydrogen ramp-up, discussed sustainable and low-carbon solutions, and highlighted the importance of global partnerships and associated investment requirements.
The conference provided a platform for intensive discussions and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Numerous experts and participants took the opportunity to ask questions about sustainable hydrogen production and the challenges of building a global infrastructure.
We look forward to future developments and are excited for further insightful discussions on the topic of hydrogen and its role in achieving climate neutrality.
